About Caribbean Coast
Bocas Del Toro or the "mouth of the bull" is the name of the province that borders Costa Rica in the North West corner of Panama. The area is now being discovered by international tourists (particularly since the Survivor programs) and more and more people are staying for retirement or building a second home.
The area is dotted with unspoiled islands, miles of white sand beaches, crystal clear turquoise waters and vibrant coral reefs that are home to incredible sea life. Further offshore, the Caribbean turns cobalt blue, and deep-sea fishing is a favorite sport. Dolphin, tuna, cobia and Wahoo are among the sea's bounty.
In contrast to the sparkling blue of the Caribbean, lush tropical land rises from the sea and climbs to the gently rolling hills of the forest. The highest point in Panama is a day-trip away: Vulcan Baru, a dormant volcano that has become a top attraction for adventure lovers.
As word of this unspoiled Caribbean paradise has spread, Bocas has started to attract visitors from around the world, drawn to its warm year-round weather and diverse natural beauty. Visitors enjoy a fun nightlife, good shopping, a variety of restaurants and friendly people.
Most residents speak English as a second language, and the American dollar is the official currency of Panama - a reflection of the U.S.'s close ties to Panama and the building of the Panama Canal.
